Private transfers to Akihabara are priced per vehicle: from ¥15,000 from Haneda and ¥22,000 from Narita, tax included, same price across Tokyo. Travel times, handling extra luggage after shopping, and booking notes.
Akihabara is known for electronics, anime and model shops, and many travellers stay there or visit specifically to shop. From the airport you can take a train, a bus or a private transfer, and the extra luggage you pick up while shopping is worth factoring into how you travel. This guide covers private transfer prices and travel times, and when a car is the easier choice.
Private transfer prices
Prices are per vehicle, regardless of the number of passengers. Fares are the same across Tokyo, so Akihabara uses the central Tokyo rate. One way, per vehicle, tax included:
| Airport | ECO (5 seats) | Alphard (7 seats) | Hiace (10 seats) | Drive time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Haneda | on request | ¥15,000 | ¥17,000 | about 30–45 min |
| Narita | on request | ¥22,000 | ¥27,000 | about 60–90 min |
- Tolls and parking fees are included.
- Trips between 22:00 and 06:00 carry a flat ¥4,000 surcharge.
- Child seats and booster seats are available.
- Airport pickups include 90 minutes of free waiting.

Haneda or Narita for Akihabara?
From ¥15,000 from Haneda against ¥22,000 from Narita, and the drive is shorter from Haneda. If your flight options allow it, Haneda is usually the quicker and cheaper way to reach Akihabara. From Narita the drive is longer, and a car straight to your accommodation saves you the changes along the way.
Private car, train or bus?
For routes, fares and timetables, check the operators directly:
- JR East: https://www.jreast.co.jp/e/
- Tokyo Metro: https://www.tokyometro.jp/en/
- Airport Limousine bus: https://www.limousinebus.co.jp/en/
We have not checked each of these links individually; please rely on the operators' latest pages.
A private car is usually easier when:
- You have a lot of luggage. Changing trains means carrying bags between levels and finding the right exit. A private car takes you from the airport to your accommodation.
- You are travelling with 3 or more people. Pricing is per vehicle, so the cost per person falls as the group grows. Work out whether it pays off for your party and vehicle size.
- You are travelling with children or older relatives. You can book child seats and avoid transfers and carrying bags.
- You arrive late at night or early in the morning. Check the operators for first and last train times; our service runs 24 hours.
- You are coming from Narita. The ride is longer, and going door to door avoids changing trains.
If you are travelling alone or as a pair with light luggage, the train is also a reasonable choice.
After shopping: handling the return luggage
Travellers in Akihabara often buy electronics, models and merchandise, so the bag count and weight on the way home can exceed what you arrived with. When booking your departure transfer:
- Estimate your bag count in advance. Luggage capacity depends on the vehicle: ECO 4 bags, Alphard 6, Hiace 9. If you expect to buy a lot, consider a larger vehicle.
- Check your airline's baggage rules. Checked weight and piece limits, and rules for items such as lithium batteries, are set by the airline and airport. Please check their official pages; we do not list specific rules here.
- Allow extra loading time. With a lot of luggage, leave a little earlier than usual.
