How Much Luggage Fits in a Japan Airport Transfer? ECO, Alphard and Hiace Compared

· Updated

Count your bags before you book. The ECO sedan holds 4 pieces, the Alphard 6 and the Hiace 9. Tokyo airport transfers from on request (Haneda) and on request (Narita) per vehicle, tax included.

Luggage is the detail travellers most often underestimate when booking an airport transfer. Passenger count decides how many seats you need, but bags are often what decides the vehicle. This guide sets out what each vehicle holds, how to count your bags, and which vehicle suits common groups.

Capacity of the three vehicles

Vehicle Seats Luggage Haneda (central Tokyo) Narita (central Tokyo)
ECO 5-seat sedan 5 4 on request on request
Toyota Alphard 7 6 ¥15,000 ¥22,000
Toyota Hiace 10 9 ¥17,000 ¥27,000

Prices are one-way for central Tokyo, per vehicle, tax included, with tolls and parking included. The same fare applies across Tokyo; Tokyo Disney Resort is in Chiba Prefecture and is priced separately. See the Alphard and Hiace pages for vehicle details.

How to count your bags

  • A standard-size suitcase counts as one piece. This is the basis of the capacity figures above.
  • An oversized suitcase counts as one piece but takes more room. For suitcases of 28 inches or larger, mention the size when booking.
  • Backpacks, handbags and shopping bags: small items can sit beside you, but if you are near the limit, tell us so there are no surprises on the day.
  • Strollers, skis, golf bags and instruments: these are bulky items. Please state the type and number when booking.
  • Child seats: if you need them, they also take up space in the vehicle. Please let us know.

The simplest approach is to list everything coming along and let our team check it against the vehicle.

Choosing for common groups

Situation Suggested vehicle Note
2 people, one suitcase each ECO 4 pieces is ample
4 people, one suitcase each ECO (exactly 4) or Alphard Choose the Alphard for more room
4 people, one large suitcase and one carry-on each Hiace 8 pieces exceeds the Alphard's 6; the Hiace holds 9
5–6 people, one suitcase each Alphard 7 seats, 6 pieces: a close fit; with more bags, consider the Hiace
7–10 people Hiace 10 seats, 9 pieces
11 people or more Two vehicles Please contact our team to arrange

Seats and luggage are two separate limits, and whichever is reached first applies. Five people with two bags each is 10 pieces: the seats are enough, but the Alphard's 6 are not, so choose the Hiace or split across two vehicles.

Reading the price

Pricing is per vehicle, not per person or per bag. Within a vehicle's seat and luggage limits, adding a passenger or a bag does not change the fare.

  • With many people and many bags, one Hiace is often cheaper than two smaller cars. A Haneda Hiace is ¥17,000; two ECO sedans come to on request.
  • Rides between 22:00 and 06:00 carry a flat ¥4,000 surcharge, whichever vehicle you choose.
  • Airport pickups include 90 minutes of free waiting, so there is no need to rush at baggage claim or immigration.

What to tell us when booking

  1. Date, flight number and expected arrival time.
  2. Number of adults and children.
  3. Number of bags, and whether any are oversized.
  4. Strollers, skis, golf bags or other bulky items.
  5. Hotel name and address.

The more complete the details, the sooner our team can confirm the right vehicle.
