Tokyo Airport Transfer or Day Charter? Differences, Prices and How to Choose

· Updated

An airport transfer is a one-way, point-to-point ride; a Tokyo day charter is 10 hours from and back to Tokyo. Compare Haneda and Narita transfer prices (ECO from on request, tax included) with day charter prices (from on request, tax included).

Many travellers hesitate before booking: is an airport transfer enough, or should they add a day charter? Both are priced per vehicle, but they serve different purposes. This guide sets out the differences and prices so you can decide which suits your plan.

How the two services differ

Airport transfer Tokyo day charter
Format One-way ride from the airport to an address Up to 10 hours from and back to Tokyo, following your plan
Best for Arrival and departure A full day with several stops in the city
Pricing Per vehicle Per vehicle
Tolls and parking Included Included

Neither depends on passenger count, and child safety seats and booster seats are available.

Price comparison

All prices are tax included and per vehicle. Airport transfers cost the same across central Tokyo (Tokyo Disney Resort is in Chiba Prefecture and is not covered by this rate).

Vehicle Haneda transfer Narita transfer Tokyo day charter (10 hours)
ECO 5-seat sedan on request on request on request
Alphard (7 seats) ¥15,000 ¥22,000 ¥45,000
Hiace (10 seats) ¥17,000 ¥27,000 ¥50,000

Day charter overtime is ¥3,000 per 30 minutes. For either service, a flat ¥4,000 is added between 22:00 and 06:00.

When a transfer alone is enough

  • You go straight to your hotel and then rely on trains or walking.
  • You only want one or two quick stops on the way, such as a drugstore or convenience store. Let us know in advance and we can arrange stops along your transfer, up to 3 per booking.
  • You have heavy luggage, older relatives or children, and simply want fewer transfers on arrival and departure.

When a day charter fits

  • You plan three or four stops in a day, with real driving between them.
  • You travel with older relatives or children and want less walking and fewer changes.
  • You are shopping and want to leave bags in the car.

For a charter day, we suggest choosing one or two areas and keeping the last hour as a buffer.

Using both

Many travellers book a transfer on arrival and departure days and a charter for one day in between. Transfers and charters are separate bookings; whether they can be combined on the same day, and how the timing connects, should be confirmed with our team when you book. To compare the airports, see Haneda to Tokyo and Narita to Tokyo; route overviews are at Haneda routes and Narita routes.

What to prepare before booking

  1. Date, arrival or departure time and flight.
  2. Number of passengers, pieces of luggage and whether children are travelling.
  3. For a charter: the places you want to visit, in priority order.
