Chubu airport to Nagoya Castle: last entry is 4:00 pm, two car parks, and luggage is the catch. How to time a morning landing so you get in before closing.
You land at Chubu Airport at 10:00 am, and your hotel will not let you check in until mid-afternoon. Is there time to see Nagoya Castle first? Yes, but one deadline matters: the castle's official site says it is open until 4:30 pm, with entrance until 4:00 pm, and last admission to Hommaru Palace and the Nishinomaru Okura Museum is also 4:00 pm. Going from Chubu Airport to Nagoya Castle is less about distance than about getting through the gate before 4:00 pm.
Timing a morning landing
The drive from Chubu Airport into central Nagoya is typically about 40 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic and where you are dropped off. If you land at 10:00 and clear immigration and baggage claim smoothly, you can be in the car around 11:00 and at the castle around midday. That leaves nearly four hours before the 4:00 pm cut-off, enough for Hommaru Palace. If your flight lands after about 2:00 pm, skip the castle for that day: immigration plus the drive usually leaves you arriving right at closing, so check in first and go the next day.
Immigration time varies by flight, so treat this as an estimate. If your flight is delayed, tell us the new landing time and we can reassess whether the day still works.
What to do with the suitcases
The official visitor page does not list coin lockers or luggage storage, so large bags are a real problem. Two options:
- Drop bags at the hotel first. If your hotel is around Nagoya Station or Sakae, the car can go there first and then on to the castle. That adds a stop, and our staff confirm the route and timing.
- Leave bags in the car. Tell us your bag count and visit length when booking; our staff will confirm whether this works. Do not assume it.
Where the car can stop
You cannot be dropped just anywhere in the grounds. The official site lists two car parks:
| Cars | Large vehicles | Hours | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main Gate | 319 | 28 | 8:45 am – 9:30 pm |
| East Gate | 202 | 28 | 8:30 am – 10:30 pm |
Neither allows overnight parking, and both close December 29 to January 1. Parking fees are on the official site. The castle says it takes about 10 minutes to walk from either gate to Hommaru Palace, and about 5 minutes from the Main Gate or 10 from the East Gate to the Nishinomaru Okura Museum, so the right gate depends on which you want to see first. The exact drop-off point is confirmed by our staff with the driver and is not guaranteed.
Train versus private car
The official access list includes the Meijo Line "Nagoyajo" station (M07), the Tsurumai Line "Sengencho" station (T05), the Meitetsu Seto Line "Higashi-ote" station, plus buses and a sightseeing bus. From Chubu Airport you would head into the city first, change to the subway with your bags, then walk into the grounds. The official site does not give walking times from the stations.
For two or more people with luggage, a car from the terminal to the gate avoids the changes. A solo traveller with one small bag and no time pressure can manage by train.
