Can You Choose Your Driver's Language for a Japan Airport Transfer?

· Updated

When booking an airport transfer or private charter in Japan, you can select a driver language: Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Japanese or no preference. How to request it, what to prepare, and tax-included Tokyo fares from Narita and Haneda.

On a first trip to Japan, or when travelling with elderly parents or children, many travellers prefer a driver who speaks a familiar language. This guide explains how to state a language preference when booking and what else to prepare so the pickup runs smoothly.

How to choose a driver language

The form on the booking page has a "Driver language" field with these options:

  • Chinese (Mandarin)
  • Cantonese
  • English
  • Japanese
  • Any

Choose the closest match when you submit your request. Whether a driver in that language can be arranged for your date and time is confirmed by our customer service team, and their reply is final, so the earlier you ask, the better.

Why raise the language request early

  • Meeting point and timing: After immigration, finding each other and handling flight delays both need quick communication.
  • Arrangements before the hotel: Extra stops or the right hotel entrance are easier to settle when everyone understands.
  • Older relatives and children: A driver they can talk to puts them at ease.

Other details worth including

  1. Date, flight number and expected arrival time.
  2. Number of passengers and bags.
  3. Hotel name and address.
  4. Whether you would like a child seat, a booster seat or a name-sign pickup. All are available.
  5. A phone number or messaging account we can reach you on.
