For 2 to 4 people on an airport transfer, is the ECO 5-seat sedan enough or is the Alphard worth it? Compared by luggage and cost per person: Haneda ECO on request vs Alphard ¥15,000, Narita ECO on request vs Alphard ¥22,000 per vehicle, tax included.
Groups of two to four are the most common: couples, parents with one child, two pairs of friends. The choice is usually between the ECO 5-seat sedan and the Alphard. The price gap is modest, so what matters is luggage and cost per person. This guide uses Tokyo airport transfers as the example.
The two vehicles
| Vehicle | Seats | Luggage |
|---|---|---|
| ECO 5-seat sedan | 5 | 4 bags |
| Toyota Alphard | 7 | 6 bags |
See the Alphard page for details.
Price comparison
Within Tokyo, one way, per vehicle, tax included, tolls and parking included. Narita and Haneda to anywhere in Tokyo share one price.

|---|---|---|---|
| Haneda | on request | ¥15,000 | on request |
| Narita | on request | ¥22,000 | on request |
Per person from Haneda:
| Travellers | ECO each | Alphard each |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | on request | ¥7,500 |
| 3 | about on request | about ¥5,000 |
| 4 | on request | ¥3,750 |
Per person from Narita:

| 3 | about on request | about ¥7,333 |
| 4 | on request | about ¥5,500 |
These are our own divisions, for reference. Four people in an Alphard from Haneda pay ¥3,750 each, less than two people in an ECO at on request each: the more people share a vehicle, the lower the cost per head.
How to choose
- 2 people, one suitcase each: ECO. Four bags of capacity is ample and the fare is lowest.
- 3 people, 4 bags or fewer: ECO.
- 3–4 people, each with a large suitcase: with exactly 4 bags the ECO is full, and carry-ons have to go on the seats. For more room, take the Alphard for on request more from Haneda or on request more from Narita.
- Stroller, skis, golf bag or other bulky items: Alphard, and say so when booking.
- 5 or more people: the Alphard seats 7; for 7 or more, consider the 10-seat Hiace, or ask customer service.
Luggage counts assume standard sizes; what actually fits depends on the bags.
Other charges and services
