Landing at New Chitose in July for Furano's lavender? Bloom dates, the seasonal Lavender Farm Station's three daily trains, a 2.5-hour drive, and where the car can stop.
If you land at New Chitose in early July and want to see Furano's lavender the same day, the first question is how you reach Farm Tomita. The train has a seasonal Lavender Farm Station but very few services; a private car is simpler, but you need to know where it can stop. Here is how each option works, based on official information.
Lavender season: which weeks to aim for
Visit Hokkaido's Farm Tomita page gives late June to early August for the lavender, with lupines and rose hips in June and poppies in July (Visit Hokkaido: Farm Tomita). A late-June arrival catches the start of the bloom and early August the tail; which week peaks varies by year, so check the farm's site before you book flights.
Lavender Farm Station: seasonal, three trains a day
The rail option is the Furano Line's Norokko-go to Lavender Farm Station, then a 7–8 minute walk to the farm. Farm Tomita's own page sets two limits:
- The station is served only in summer. In 2026 the train ran daily from 13 June to 11 August, then only on some weekends and dates.
- Towards Furano there are three arrivals a day (11:15, 13:45, 15:46) and towards Asahikawa three more (12:17, 14:31, 16:44).
(Times and dates are the farm's 2026 figures and change each year. Source: Lavender Farm Station.)
With suitcases fresh off a flight, that means planning the whole day around those trains, and missing one costs roughly two hours. The alternative is a Furano Bus to the Nakafurano stop, then about a 25-minute walk or a taxi (Farm Tomita access). Confirm connections and fares with JR Hokkaido and the bus operators.
By car: 2.5 hours, and where it can stop
The same access page lists about 2.5 hours from New Chitose via the Doto Expressway, exiting at Shimukappu IC. Treat that as a minimum; summer weekends can be slower.
A private car looks simpler, but the farm asks visitors not to park on public roads or in the tour-bus lots. When you book, write that you are going to Farm Tomita and your expected arrival time; customer service confirms the drop-off point and how the car is arranged. Don't assume the driver can wait at the gate while you take photos.
A landing-day plan
Say you land around 9 a.m. with luggage riding in the car:
- Leave the airport and allow 2.5 hours or more, reaching Nakafurano around midday.
- Spend 2–3 hours at the farm. Opening hours in July differ from other months, so check the farm's current notice.
- Continue to your Furano accommodation, a short drive.
If your flight lands in the afternoon, go straight to the hotel and move the fields to the next morning rather than rushing.
Price and splitting the cost
New Chitose to Furano starts from ¥49,500 per vehicle, the same for an Alphard or Hiace. Six people in an Alphard works out to roughly ¥8,250 each as a reference only; the final quote is confirmed by customer service. This is a reference starting price, not a tax-inclusive figure, and a stop at Farm Tomita is best mentioned when you book.
To compare train, bus and car to Furano, see New Chitose to Furano; if you haven't decided where to stay, read Sapporo or Furano. Route details are on the New Chitose to Furano transfer page.
Once your dates are set, send your flight and the places you want to visit through our booking page, and customer service will confirm the vehicle and drop-off arrangements.
