Kamakura or Hakone? Private Transfer Fares from Narita and Haneda Compared

· Updated

Kamakura and Hakone are both popular near Tokyo, but our private transfer fares differ: from Haneda, Kamakura ECO on request and Hakone ECO on request (tax included), a on request gap. Fares, drive times and how to choose.

Kamakura and Hakone are both in Kanagawa Prefecture and both popular destinations from Narita and Haneda. Neither is within Tokyo, so each has its own private transfer fare, and Hakone costs the same as or more than Kamakura per vehicle, depending on the airport and vehicle. This guide sets out the fare gap, drive times and the factors to weigh before you book.

Fares Compared

One-way, priced per vehicle, tax included. Tolls and parking are included.

Departure airport Destination ECO (5 seats) Alphard (7 seats) Hiace (10 seats)
Haneda Kamakura · Enoshima on request ¥45,000 ¥50,000
Haneda Hakone on request ¥50,000 ¥55,000
Narita Kamakura · Enoshima on request ¥60,000 ¥70,000
Narita Hakone on request ¥70,000 ¥80,000
  • Fare gap: it varies by airport and vehicle. From Haneda in an ECO, Hakone is on request more than Kamakura; see the table above for other combinations.
  • Per-vehicle pricing: six people in an Alphard from Haneda pay about ¥7,500 each to Kamakura and ¥8,333 to Hakone; ten people in a Hiace pay about ¥5,000 and ¥5,500 respectively.
  • Drive time (rough off-peak estimates): Kamakura takes about 60–90 minutes from Haneda and 120–150 minutes from Narita; Hakone about 90–120 minutes from Haneda and 150–180 minutes from Narita. Traffic and holiday periods affect both.
  • Late-night surcharge: a flat ¥4,000 between 22:00 and 06:00.
  • Child seats available: up to 3 child safety seats and 2 booster seats per booking.

Beyond Price: How to Choose

These are angles to consider, not a ranking:

  • Drive time and time on the ground: from the same airport, Kamakura is the shorter drive. With a late arrival or a single night, the time saved can go to your itinerary.
  • A hot-spring inn: Hakone is known for its hot-spring inns, while Kamakura and Enoshima lean towards temples, shrines and coastal walks, so the stay is a different kind.
  • Walking or moving around: Kamakura and Enoshima sights can be combined with trains and walking; Hakone's sights are spread across mountain terrain, and a private car lets you plan flexible stops. Just let us know in advance, up to 3 stops per booking.
  • Budget and group size: with a larger group, per-vehicle pricing narrows the per-person gap (above, about ¥500 for ten people in a Hiace from Haneda).
  • Access to your hotel: whether a vehicle can reach the door of a hotel in the mountains or down a narrow lane should be confirmed with the hotel and customer service.

Train and bus routes, timetables and fares change by season, so we list no figures here. Please check the official sites:

Before You Book

  1. Date, arrival flight and planned departure time.
  2. Hotel name and address (a Japanese name or map link helps).
  3. Number of passengers, pieces of luggage and whether children are travelling.
