Kansai Airport to Shirahama is 2+ hours each way, and Adventure World runs 10:00–17:00, closed most Wednesdays. Day trip or overnight, train or private car.
The real question for Kansai Airport to Shirahama is not the distance, it is how many hours you will have inside the park after you land. Adventure World lists opening hours of 10:00–17:00 and about 2 hours by car from Matsubara Junction on the Hanwa Expressway (park homepage). If you land at ten in the morning, there is almost nothing left of the day. This guide breaks down the timing for travellers arriving with luggage.
10:00 to 17:00: your landing time decides today's visit
The park's calendar shows the same 10:00–17:00 hours from November 2026 through March 2027, with a note that hours may change in busy seasons (official opening hours). Put that next to the drive:
- Early-morning landing: immigration and bags take about an hour and the drive is over two, so you might enter around midday and still need to head back. Expect four or five hours inside at most.
- Landing after noon: entering that day is unrealistic. Go straight to your Shirahama hotel and enter first thing the next morning.
A "day trip" sounds like it saves a night, but it mostly spends the day on the expressway. Unless you only want part of the park, an overnight near Shirahama is the usual plan.
Most Wednesdays are closed: check the calendar before booking
This is the easiest mistake on this route. The calendar marks most Wednesdays in October and November 2026 as closed, shows two Tuesdays in early December closed, and lists several consecutive closed days in mid to late January 2027. A Wednesday at the end of March is an exception and open. Because the closed days move, compare your dates with the official calendar before you book the car.
Train or private car: how long you drag the bags
The park's train guidance starts from Kyoto, Shin-Osaka or Tennoji by limited express to JR Shirahama Station (about 2 to 2 hours 50 minutes), then a local bus of about 10 minutes (official access page). Kansai Airport is not one of those starting points, so you go into the city first, change to the express, then change again to the bus. That is three transfers with two suitcases.
A private car trades that for one long ride and no unloading. With small children, grandparents or a group of four or more, a single two-hour-plus ride to the hotel is usually easier than three legs. Shirahama is not one of our standard destinations, so please ask our team for a quote; the Kansai Airport to Osaka transfer page is a useful reference.
A shortcut: Nanki-Shirahama Airport
The park also lists JAL from Haneda to Nanki-Shirahama Airport (about 70 minutes), then a local bus of about 5 minutes to the park. That helps if your trip links Tokyo and Kansai, but this guide is for travellers already flying into Kansai, and if the schedule does not fit you are back on the road.
Landing late at night: sleep first, visit the next day
If you arrive late, there is no need to push on to Shirahama that night; see our notes on late-night arrivals at Kansai Airport. When you book, tell us your flight, where you are staying and whether you want a stop on the way, and our team will confirm the arrangement and the quote. The park uses a camera-based parking system with no gate, and parking details are on its website; for where the car can stop, tell us at booking and we will confirm.

FAQ
- How long is Kansai Airport to Shirahama?
- Adventure World's own access page gives about 2 hours by car from Matsubara Junction on the Hanwa Expressway. The stretch from the airport to Matsubara and traffic come on top, so plan on more than two hours.
- Is Adventure World Shirahama closed on Wednesdays?
- The official calendar marks most Wednesdays as closed, plus a few Tuesdays and several days in late January, with some Wednesdays open as exceptions. Check the calendar before you pick your arrival date.
- Can I do Kansai Airport to Shirahama as a day trip?

- Is the train from Kansai Airport to Shirahama easy?
- The park's access page lists limited expresses from Tennoji, Shin-Osaka and Kyoto (about 2 to 2 hours 50 minutes), then a local bus of about 10 minutes from JR Shirahama Station. From the airport you first travel to one of those stations, so you change at least three times with luggage.
