Kansai Airport Terminal 2 to Kyoto: Peach and LCC Guide

· Updated

From Kansai Airport Terminal 2 to Kyoto, Peach and LCC passengers take a shuttle bus before any train. The extra steps, a car split four ways, and which terminal to book.

If you fly a low-cost carrier into Osaka, one detail is easy to miss: Kansai Airport's train station sits beside Terminal 1, while Peach flights use Terminal 2. Going from Kansai Airport Terminal 2 to Kyoto, you don't walk to the platform. You take a shuttle bus first.

Kansai Airport Terminal 2 to Kyoto: a bus comes before the train

According to Peach's Kansai Airport guide, its flights operate from Terminal 2, with a free shuttle bus to and from Terminal 1 that boards on the first floor in front of AEROPLAZA. The airport's own terminal-transfer page and Peach describe the ride time a little differently, roughly 7 to 10 minutes, plus waiting for the next bus.

So the train route to Kyoto runs like this: clear immigration and baggage claim at Terminal 2, wait for the shuttle, ride to Terminal 1, walk through AEROPLAZA to the station, and only then board a JR or Nankai train (our Kansai Airport to Kyoto guide compares the options). Travelling light and alone, that is fine. With two large suitcases each, or at ten at night, those steps add up.

Four friends going to Kyoto: how the car splits

Picture four friends landing on Peach in the early evening, staying in central Kyoto, each with a carry-on and a checked bag. An Alphard seats 7 and takes that luggage. From Kansai Airport to central Kyoto the reference starting price is ¥32,200 per vehicle (a reference starting price, not a tax-inclusive fare; final quotes are confirmed by our support team). Split four ways, that is about ¥8,050 each.

What you are buying is the removal of the shuttle, station and transfer chain. Put your terminal in the booking and our support team confirms the Terminal 2 meeting point; you collect your bags and get straight into the car. In normal traffic the drive is about 85–90 minutes, depending on conditions.

If you land after 22:00, a surcharge of ¥4,000 applies from 22:00 to 06:00, bringing the same Alphard to about ¥36,200 (reference). Late LCC arrivals often fall in that window; see our Kansai Airport late-night arrival guide.

Put the terminal in your booking

Terminals differ in more than distance; the meeting point differs too. In the booking notes, include:

  • Flight number and expected landing time
  • Arrival terminal (Terminal 2 or Terminal 1)
  • Number of bags

If you are unsure of your terminal, ask the airline first. Our support team confirms the meeting point for that terminal and sends it to you. If your flight is delayed, update the flight details as they change.

On the way back, confirm the departure terminal

A Peach departure also leaves from Terminal 2. When you book the Kyoto-to-airport transfer, give the flight number and terminal so our team can confirm the drop-off point and you do not end up at Terminal 1 needing another bus. Peach's check-in counters are on the first floor of Terminal 2, with the entrance to the left after you get off; see Peach's site for details. For how much time to allow, see our Kyoto to Kansai Airport departure guide.

With the terminal sorted before you fly, the only thing left in Kansai is spotting your driver. To arrange a car to Kyoto or Osaka, go to the booking page; route details are on Kansai Airport to Kyoto.
