Karuizawa and Nikko are both popular destinations near Tokyo, but they lie in opposite directions: Karuizawa in Nagano Prefecture, Nikko in Tochigi Prefecture. Neither is within Tokyo, so the flat Tokyo rate does not apply, yet our price list puts them in the same price zone. Since price will not settle the question, this guide looks at other factors.

- Per-vehicle pricing: From Haneda, six people in an Alphard pay about ¥10,000 each; ten people in a Hiace pay ¥6,500 each.
- Late-night surcharge: a flat ¥4,000 between 22:00 and 06:00.
- Child seats available: up to 3 child safety seats and 2 booster seats per booking.
- Drive time: To Karuizawa, roughly 150–180 minutes from Haneda and 150–210 minutes from Narita (rough off-peak estimates). Please ask customer service to confirm the drive time to Nikko based on your accommodation.

Beyond Price: How to Choose
These are angles to consider, not a ranking:
- Shopping and a resort atmosphere: Karuizawa is known for Old Karuizawa Ginza and a large outlet mall, suiting a trip built around shopping and strolling.
- Historic sights and lake scenery: Nikko is known for Nikko Toshogu and Lake Chuzenji, with a trip centred more on sightseeing.
- Where you stay: Villas, resorts and inns in both areas are often set among trees or by a lake, some distance from the station, so you may need another transfer after arriving by train. A private car can take you to the door.
- Season: Both areas sit higher than the plains, and winter may bring snow or icy roads. Drive times depend on weather and traffic, so leave some slack.
- Visiting both: Our price list is per single destination. If you want to visit both in one trip, describe the plan when you book and customer service will confirm the route and cost. Please do not assume the same price.
