Niseko in Summer: New Chitose Transfer with Golf Bags & Bikes

· Updated

Niseko in summer means golf bags, bikes and hiking gear. Train vs car from New Chitose, what to do on arrival day, fitting your gear, and reference prices.

Niseko in summer has no snow, and a different crowd: golfers, cyclists and hikers. The luggage changes too. Ski bags give way to golf bags, bikes and hiking gear, and the questions after landing are how to bring it all along, and whether there is time to do anything that day.

The train means a change, and services are sparse

From the Niseko Tourism Association's access page:

  • Train: New Chitose Airport → Otaru (Rapid Airport, about 75 minutes) → Niseko (local train, about 90 minutes). You change at Otaru, and the association warns that services are infrequent, so check the timetable first.
  • Bus: the Chitose–Niseko line is reservation-only (Hokkaido Chuo Bus).
  • Car: about 120 minutes from Chitose via Route 276, and about 120 minutes from Sapporo via Route 230.

Changing trains with golf bags or a bike is the hardest part of a summer trip. A private car runs straight from the airport to your accommodation, and your gear never has to be lifted on and off platforms (other destinations are under private transfers from New Chitose).

Niseko in summer: what you can do on arrival day

With roughly two hours' drive plus immigration and baggage claim, arrival day is short:

  • Morning landing: you arrive in the afternoon, with time for something flexible, like a walk near your lodging or a short bike ride.
  • Afternoon landing: you arrive near evening; check in and have dinner.
  • Fixed-time activities (rafting, golf tee times and similar): book them for the next day rather than tying them to your flight time.

Getting your gear in the car

Summer's bulky items vary a lot:

  • Golf bags: usually longer than a suitcase; several of them may call for the larger vehicle.
  • Bikes: depends on whether they come apart or travel boxed.
  • Hiking gear: backpacks, poles and rain gear; not many pieces, but easy to underestimate.

The Alphard seats 7 (6 bags) and the Hiace seats 10 (9 bags). When booking, give us your group size and the type, size and number of bulky items, and our team will confirm the vehicle and arrangements.
