How to plan Suzuka Japanese Grand Prix transport from Chubu Centrair: 9–11 April 2027, the race-day Route 23 bypass closure, and a timeline that works.
Flying into Chubu Centrair for the Japanese Grand Prix, the question is less the distance than which days the road is usable. In 2026, part of the Route 23 Chusei Bypass was shut to general vehicles on both race days, so a private car works best split into arrival day and departure day rather than race day itself.
The dates: 9–11 April 2027, with Japan's first F1 sprint
Car Watch reports that the 2027 Japanese Grand Prix runs from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 April. Sprint qualifying is on Friday, the sprint and grand prix qualifying on Saturday, and the race on Sunday. Tickets go on sale on 15 November 2026 at 11:00, and Friday seats become reserved.
Friday is therefore a race day too. For all three days, you want to be near Suzuka by Thursday night.
Race days: Chusei Bypass is shuttle-only from 6:00 to 21:00
The Suzuka F1 organising council's 2026 closure notice (PDF, Japanese) set out the following:
- The stretch was part of Route 23, the Chusei Bypass, between Inyu-cho-nishi and Nomachi-nishi (northbound) and Suehiro to Inyu-cho-nishi (southbound).
- On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 March, 6:00–21:00, general vehicles were banned and only shuttle buses could pass. Friday, the free-practice day, had no restriction.
- The aim was to keep shuttle buses on time and limit through traffic around the circuit. The notice also warned of congestion after the race and recommended wide detours.
- The shuttle route runs from Kintetsu Shiroko Station to a drop-off point next to the circuit.
Whether 2027 repeats this is for the organisers to confirm, but expect race-day restrictions again.
Where a private car fits
- Thursday or Friday arrival: Chubu Airport to a hotel around Suzuka, Yokkaichi or Tsu before any closure, straight to the hotel door without going via Nagoya and a Kintetsu transfer with your bags.
- Race days: use the shuttle from Shiroko Station. A car is not the right tool for reaching the circuit.
- Monday return: back to Chubu Airport after the weekend. Sunday-night congestion around the circuit makes a same-night flight risky.
Suzuka is not on our public price list. When you book, give your flight, dates, group size and hotel address and our team will confirm the plan and quote. For Nagoya city fares, see Chubu Airport to Nagoya.
Staying in Nagoya instead
Nagoya has far more hotels, but on race days you take Kintetsu to Shiroko and then the shuttle, so you leave earlier. If you want to see Nagoya on arrival day, read our guide on getting from Chubu Airport to Nagoya, and for a late flight, Chubu Airport late-night arrival.

FAQ
- When is the 2027 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka?
- According to Car Watch, the 2027 race runs 9–11 April at Suzuka Circuit and includes Japan's first F1 sprint: sprint qualifying on Friday, the sprint and grand prix qualifying on Saturday, and the race on Sunday. Tickets go on sale on 15 November 2026 at 11:00 through the official online shop.
- Can a private car drop me near the circuit on race days?
- Not necessarily. In 2026 a stretch of the Chusei Bypass (Route 23) was closed to general traffic from 6:00 to 21:00 on both race days, with shuttle buses only. Whether 2027 follows the same plan is for the organisers to announce. Tell us your dates and destination when booking and our team will confirm the arrangement.
- How long is the drive from Chubu Centrair to Suzuka Circuit?
- Roughly an hour outside race days, depending on traffic. On race days closures and post-race congestion make it hard to predict, so use the car for your arrival day (Thursday or Friday) and for the Monday trip back.
- Should I fly out on Sunday night after the race?
- The organisers warned of heavy congestion around the circuit after the race, so a Sunday-night flight is risky. A Monday departure is the safer plan.
- Can you arrange transfers between Chubu Airport and a hotel near Suzuka?
- Yes. Suzuka is not on our public price list, so send your flight, date, group size and hotel address and our team will confirm the plan and quote.
