Is tipping expected for private transfers and taxis in Japan? We cite the Japan National Tourism Organization and list what a Sakura Travel quote includes: tolls, parking, one price across Tokyo.
On a first trip to Japan, many travellers hesitate as they step out of the car: should I tip the driver, and do I need cash? This article explains the local custom and lists what a Sakura Travel quote already includes.
Tipping in Japan
The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) notes that tipping is generally not practised in places such as bars, cafés, restaurants, taxis and hotels. An occasional small gift of thanks, known as kokorozuke, is a personal gesture rather than an expectation. See the official page: JNTO: Tipping in Japan.
In practice, you do not need to prepare extra cash for the ride. If you have any question about your arrangements, ask our team when you book.
