Yokohama and Kamakura are both popular day trips from Tokyo. Each fits in a single day, but the sights and the cost differ a little. Using our day charter price list, this guide compares the price gap, the per-person cost and the character of each day.

6 people, Alphard ¥8,333 about ¥9,167
10 people, Hiace ¥5,500 ¥6,000

What Each Day Looks Like

These describe the character of each place, not a ranking.

Yokohama: The sights cluster along the waterfront: Minato Mirai, the Red Brick Warehouse and Chinatown. It suits shopping, strolling and dining, with short distances between areas.

Kamakura · Enoshima: The sights are more spread out: Tsurugaoka Hachimangu and Komachi-dori, the Great Buddha and Hase-dera, and Enoshima on the Shonan coast. The day leans towards temples, shrines and sea views. Kamakura's roads are narrow and can be congested on weekends and holidays, so leave some slack in your schedule.

Opening hours, events and closing days change, so we list none here. Please check the official sites:

How to Choose

  • A relaxed day of shopping and dining with little walking: Yokohama is compact and costs less.
  • Temples, shrines and sea views: Kamakura · Enoshima fits better.
  • Budget first: The per-vehicle gap for each vehicle type is shown in the table above, and it is modest once split among passengers, so choose by interest.
  • Both in one day: We publish no price for this. Tell customer service the places and timing and they will confirm feasibility and cost.

If you have just landed and your hotel is in Yokohama or Kamakura, see Haneda to Yokohama, Narita to Yokohama, Haneda to Kamakura and Narita to Kamakura. Neither city is within Tokyo, so the flat rate for Tokyo does not apply and each has its own price.
