Chichibu Night Festival access: parking can't be reserved, only one lot opens on Dec 2, Seibu limited expresses are reserved-seat. Plan your car, train and overnight stay.
If your flight lands on 2 or 3 December and you want to see the Chichibu Night Festival, two decisions matter more than which airport you fly into: how far a car can actually get, and whether to sleep in Chichibu.
Short answer for Chichibu Night Festival access: it is a walking festival. Use a private car for the airport-to-lodging leg, don't expect it to wait in town at night, and if you plan to watch the fireworks, stay over rather than rushing back to Tokyo in the biggest crowd of the night.
Chichibu Night Festival dates and where it happens
Chichibu City lists Wednesday 2 December 2026 as the eve festival and Thursday 3 December as the main festival. The city describes two kasaboko and four yatai floats on the main day, with the climax when the yatai are hauled up the steep Dangozaka slope at night. The procession schedule, temporary parking, traffic map and fireworks details were not yet published when this was written.
For the full procession and fireworks, plan around 3 December. The 2 December eve festival is quieter but still has events.
Parking can't be reserved: why the car goes to your lodging
The city's Q&A (linking to 2025 material) contains rules that affect anyone arriving by car:
- Neither buses nor cars can be reserved, and lots near the venue fill early.
- On 2 December only one lot, Miyaji Ground, opens.
- On 3 December school grounds and similar sites serve as temporary parking.
- Vehicles cannot stay overnight across 2–3 December.
- Walking and parking take longer than usual during the festival; the walk from Seibu-Chichibu Station to Chichibu Shrine is normally about 15 minutes.
Check the city's latest traffic map for 2026 lot locations. Our suggestion is to have the car take you and your luggage straight to your lodging during the day, then walk. Tell us the hotel name when you book and our team will confirm the drop-off arrangement. Chichibu is not on our price list, so please ask for a quote.
Landing first, then Ikebukuro and the Seibu limited express
The other option is a car from the airport to Ikebukuro, then the Seibu limited express to Seibu-Chichibu. The Ikebukuro leg falls inside central Tokyo: Alphard from Haneda ¥15,000, from Narita ¥22,000, per vehicle, tax included. For which side of the station your hotel sits on, see Narita to Ikebukuro.
The catch is seat reservations. Seibu limited expresses are all reserved-seat. Seibu's 2025 notice added limited expresses from Ikebukuro about every 30 minutes from the 11:00 hour on the main festival day, and capped first-day sales at 8 tickets per person. Whether 2026 is the same must be checked on Seibu's site. With heavy luggage or an uncertain landing time, tying a whole group to one train is risky.
After the fireworks: can you get back the same night?
Fireworks times and the last trains for 3 December had not been published. Seibu's 2025 plan added up-line limited expresses and local trains from Seibu-Chichibu, but last departures must be checked by you. The yatai climb at Dangozaka is the busiest moment of the night, and the station is crowded afterward.
Two practical options:
- Stay one night in Chichibu and let a car take you from your lodging to Narita or Haneda on 4 December. See hotel-to-airport transfers from Tokyo.
- If you must return to Tokyo that night, confirm the last train first and leave plenty of margin. Whether a car can pick up in town late at night is confirmed with our team when you book.

FAQ
- What are the dates of the 2026 Chichibu Night Festival?
- Chichibu City's site lists Wednesday 2 December 2026 as the eve festival (yomiya) and Thursday 3 December as the main festival. As of mid-October the float schedule, temporary parking, traffic map and fireworks details were still marked as to be announced, so check again before you go.
- Can I drive to the Chichibu Night Festival and park on the day?
- The city's Q&A (which links to 2025 material) says neither buses nor cars can be reserved, and parking near the venue fills early. On 2 December only one lot, Miyaji Ground, opens; on 3 December school grounds and similar sites are used, and vehicles cannot stay overnight across the two days. That is why we suggest the car takes you to your lodging, and you walk from there.
- Do I need a reservation for the Seibu limited express from Ikebukuro?
- Seibu limited expresses are all reserved-seat and need a limited-express ticket. Seibu's 2025 notice added trains from Ikebukuro about every 30 minutes on the main festival day and capped sales at 8 tickets per person on the first day of sale. Check Seibu's site for 2026 arrangements.
- Can I get back to Tokyo after the fireworks?
- The last trains and fireworks times were not published when this was written. Seibu's 2025 plan added up-line limited expresses and local trains from Seibu-Chichibu, but you must confirm the last departure yourself. Staying one night in Chichibu avoids the post-fireworks crush; a car can then take you to Narita or Haneda the next morning.
