Fuji Rock festival transport: the Echigo-Yuzawa shuttle queue can top an hour and the last train goes early. How a private car to Yuzawa lodging works for groups with tents.
If you are flying into Tokyo in late July for Fuji Rock, the part of festival transport that catches people out is the last stretch after landing. Getting from the airport to Echigo-Yuzawa Station is straightforward. Getting from the station to the venue is not: the official shuttle takes about 40 minutes, but the festival's own page warns it can run over an hour at busy times, and queues to board can also exceed an hour. With three or four friends, tents and suitcases, that queue is the hardest part of the trip.
Fuji Rock festival transport: how the official shuttle works
Based on the 2026 information on the Fuji Rock website (check the current year's page before you go):
- Shuttles from the station start at midday the day before opening (23 July), so if you land Thursday evening you can stay a night near Yuzawa first.
- The round-trip shuttle fare is listed on the festival site and is valid only during the festival; if you have no ticket, you pay when boarding at Echigo-Yuzawa.
- The festival warns that after the show you will not be able to catch the last train from Echigo-Yuzawa, and in heavy congestion you may miss the scheduled one.
Shinkansen plus shuttle is the route most people take, but every link means carrying your bags, and your arrival time depends on how long the queue is.
Driving and parking: what the festival says
The site says drivers can exit at Tsukiyono IC or Yuzawa IC and continue on Route 17. Parking tickets must be bought together with the entry ticket and cannot be added later. It does not name a general drop-off spot at the venue, so do not assume a car can stop at the gate.
A safer plan: the car takes you to your lodging, you drop all the luggage, then you go to the venue light, by the official shuttle or on foot. Tell us the drop-off point and timing when booking and our team will confirm.
Matching the plan to your landing time
Thursday evening arrival at Haneda or Narita. Haneda to Yuzawa usually takes about 3 to 4.5 hours depending on traffic (see our guide to Hakuba and Yuzawa transfers from Tokyo's airports for the route). If you land after 10 pm, the 22:00 to 06:00 surcharge of ¥4,000 applies; let your lodging know about a late check-in.
Friday early-morning arrival. This is opening day and one of the busiest times at the station shuttle. A car straight to your lodging means you drop the bags instead of queueing with them. Check-in times follow the lodging's own rules.
Heading back to the airport. The festival notes traffic congestion around the parking area after the show, so leave extra time. Book the return car early and state the pick-up point; our team will confirm it.
Price and splitting the cost
Yuzawa is priced in the same zone as Hakuba and Nagano. From Haneda: Alphard ¥75,000, Hiace ¥80,000. From Narita: Alphard ¥90,000, Hiace ¥100,000. Route details: Haneda to Hakuba, Nagano and Yuzawa private transfer and Narita to Hakuba, Nagano and Yuzawa private transfer.
| Group | Vehicle | Per person from Haneda |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | Alphard | ¥18,750 |
| 6 | Alphard | ¥12,500 |
| 8 | Hiace | ¥10,000 |
Train and bus fares are on the JR East website. The car is priced per vehicle, so the more of you there are, the lower the share, and your luggage never changes trains at Tokyo Station.
Tents, sleeping bags and camp chairs
Festival luggage is heavier than normal travel: tent bags, sleeping bags, folding chairs, plus a suitcase each. Six pieces of luggage in an Alphard does not mean six tent bags will fit, as tent bags tend to be long. List each item and its approximate size when booking and we will confirm the vehicle.

FAQ
- What is the best Fuji Rock festival transport from Tokyo?
- Most people take the Shinkansen to Echigo-Yuzawa Station, then the official shuttle to the venue, about 40 minutes one way. The festival warns it can run over an hour at busy times, and queues to board can also exceed an hour. Groups with tents and suitcases can take a private car from the airport to Yuzawa-area lodging, drop the luggage, then head to the venue light.
- Can a private car drive right up to the Fuji Rock gates?
- The festival's access page covers the shuttle bus and pre-purchased parking, but does not describe a general drop-off point for cars. Tell us your lodging and the venue when you book and our team will confirm the arrangement. We suggest going to your Yuzawa-area lodging first, dropping the luggage, then heading to the venue.
- How much is a private car from Haneda to Yuzawa?
- From Haneda: Alphard ¥75,000, Hiace ¥80,000. From Narita: Alphard ¥90,000, Hiace ¥100,000. Yuzawa is in the same zone as Hakuba and Nagano. All quotes are confirmed by our team.
- We are five people with tents and sleeping bags. Which vehicle?
- The Alphard seats 7 and takes 6 pieces of luggage; the Hiace seats 10 and takes 9. Tent bags and sleeping bags are bulky, so list the number and rough size of each item when booking and we will confirm whether you need a Hiace or two vehicles.
