New Chitose Airport to ES CON FIELD HOKKAIDO: about 40 minutes by car, or JR to Kitahiroshima plus a 5-minute shuttle. What luggage, parking and the 2028 station mean.
Flying into New Chitose to catch a Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters game? The distance from New Chitose Airport to ES CON FIELD HOKKAIDO is short. The real question is what you do with two suitcases and a first pitch time. Each route has a different weak point.
The distance: about 40 minutes by car, one change by train
Hokkaido's tourism site gives about 40 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport. By train the nearest station is JR Kitahiroshima, followed by a shuttle bus of about 5 minutes. It also warns that facility information can change, so check the official site before you go. (Source: Visit Hokkaido spot page.)
We do not quote JR times or fares; see JR Hokkaido. With luggage, the issue is that the train ends at the station and you still queue for the shuttle, lifting bags again, on the day the queues are longest.
Two practical problems with luggage
Where the bags go. We found no verifiable official information on luggage storage inside the stadium, so do not count on it. If you land and go straight to a game, leave bags in the car or drop them at your Sapporo hotel first.
Where the car goes. The official page lists about 4,000 paid parking spaces, which fill fast on game days. We cannot promise a particular drop-off or waiting spot; give us the game date, start time and seating area when you book and customer service will confirm the arrangement.
Until the new station opens in 2028
JR Hokkaido and Kitahiroshima City have begun building a station between Ueno-Horonai and Kitahiroshima, aiming for summer 2028 under the name ballpark F Village (Traffic News, in Japanese). Until then game days still mean Kitahiroshima Station plus shuttle or a walk, and the crowd after the game concentrates there.
How to plan common itineraries
- Day game straight after landing: allow a buffer for immigration and baggage, and send bags ahead to the hotel or keep them in the car.
- Flying out after a game: do not book a flight close to the final out; extra innings and crowds are hard to predict. For late-evening timing, see late arrivals at New Chitose.
- Game plus a Sapporo stay: see New Chitose to Sapporo and the Sapporo transfer page.
With the game date, seating area, flight and luggage count ready, send them through our booking page and customer service will reply with the vehicle and quote.
