Flying into Narita and out of Haneda, or the reverse? Drive times and fare gap for each airport, time to allow for a Narita departure, and booking both legs.
Flying into Narita and out of Haneda, or the other way round, is common when you are chasing a fare, changing airlines or doing a multi-city trip. The transfers themselves are simple: one booking for the pickup and one for the drop-off. What is worth thinking about is that the two airports are very different distances from the city, so which leg uses which airport decides where the extra time falls.
How far each airport is from the city
| Airport | Drive to central Tokyo | Alphard | Hiace |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haneda | about 30–45 min | ¥15,000 | ¥17,000 |
| Narita | about 60–90 min | ¥22,000 | ¥27,000 |
Drive times depend on traffic. In an Alphard, the Narita leg costs ¥7,000 more than the Haneda leg. Whichever way round you fly, the two legs add up to the same total; what changes is which day carries the longer drive. For a wider comparison, see Narita or Haneda: time and fare to the city.
Fly into Narita and out of Haneda, or the reverse?
It comes down to which day you most want to protect:
- Narita in, Haneda out: a longer ride on day one, but after a flight the car is a chance to rest; on the last day Haneda is close, leaving time to look around after check-out. Good if your return flight is early or you want one more outing on the final day.
- Haneda in, Narita out: you reach your hotel quickly on day one but need to allow a longer drive at the end. Good for evening arrivals who want to get to bed fast.
If your first stop is not central Tokyo, say Tokyo Disney Resort, an Alphard from Narita to Disney is ¥25,000, a shorter run than Narita to the city (see Narita to Tokyo Disney Resort private transfer).
Leaving from Narita: how much time to allow
Central Tokyo to Narita takes about 60–90 minutes depending on traffic, and longer in the morning and evening rush. Work back from your airline's check-in deadline (set by the airline) and add the drive; our Tokyo hotel to Narita or Haneda drop-off guide walks through the timing. Narita's Terminal 3 has no railway station, so if you are flying home on a low-cost carrier, give your departure terminal and the driver will take you straight there.
Submit both legs together
Give your arrival flight for the pickup and your departure flight and terminal for the drop-off; if you stay at different hotels, list each address. If your party or luggage changes between the two, each booking can use a different vehicle. Submit both at once and our team will confirm them together.
Book both legs on the booking page. For route details, see Narita to Tokyo and Haneda to Tokyo.
FAQ
- How do I book transfers if I fly into Narita and out of Haneda?
- Make two bookings: Narita to your accommodation on arrival day, and your accommodation to Haneda on departure day. You can submit both at once and our team will confirm them together.
- What is the fare difference between Narita and Haneda?
- In an Alphard, Narita to central Tokyo costs ¥7,000 more than Haneda; in a Hiace, ¥10,000 more. Both are per vehicle, tax included, and the same for every Tokyo ward.
- How early should I leave central Tokyo for a Narita departure?
- The drive is about 60–90 minutes depending on traffic, plus the check-in time your airline requires. Check-in deadlines are set by the airline.
- Can the two legs use different vehicles?
- Yes. If your party or luggage changes between arrival and departure, choose an Alphard or Hiace for each booking separately.
