Fuji Shibazakura Festival access explained: the site is at Lake Motosu, not Kawaguchiko town, and gates close at 4 pm. Plan your flight, train or private car around it.
The moss phlox bloom at the Fuji Shibazakura Festival lasts little more than a month, and the gates close at 4 pm. If you want to see the pink hillside on the day you land, the access question is not how fast the car is, but whether your landing time and the closing time line up.
The venue is at Lake Motosu, not in Kawaguchiko town
The festival is held at Fuji Motosuko Resort in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Yamanashi. A hotel in Kawaguchiko does not mean it is on your way. The official listing gives about 25 minutes by car from Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway, and about 50 minutes from Fuji IC (Tomei) or Shin-Fuji IC (Shin-Tomei) (Yamanashi tourism: Fuji Shibazakura Festival, in Japanese).
From Tokyo the usual route is the Chuo Expressway to Kawaguchiko IC. Airport to Kawaguchiko takes roughly 100–150 minutes from Haneda and 150–210 minutes from Narita, depending on traffic. Add the 25 minutes on top. For trains, buses and cars to the lake compared, see Narita and Haneda to Kawaguchiko.
Working backwards from the 4 pm cut-off
Opening hours for 2026 were 8:00 to 16:00, varying by season (same source). From Haneda, allow time for immigration, baggage and loading the car, then the drive, a mountain road and a rest stop. Landing before about 1 pm gives you breathing room; from Narita you need to land earlier.
If your flight lands in the afternoon, do not force same-day entry:
- Sleep near Kawaguchiko first and go in at opening the next morning, when it is also quieter.
- Tell us at booking that you want to enter the same day. We will check it against your flight and the drive, instead of you finding out at the gate that you missed last entry.
Dates follow the flowers
The Yamanashi page says dates vary with the bloom (2026: 11 April to 24 May) and that bloom updates are posted on Instagram. Choose changeable flight fares where you can, and if the bloom comes early or late after your car is confirmed, contact us early so we can rearrange. For why spring transfers book up early, see booking airport transfers in Japan's peak season.
Fuji Shibazakura Festival access by public transport: how many changes?
The official route is the Fujikyu Line to Kawaguchiko Station, then the Fuji Shibazakura Liner, about 40 minutes. Getting from the airport to Kawaguchiko Station already means heading into town and changing trains, so with suitcases the changes add up. Bus timetables are on the Yamanashi bus search; fares are as published by the operator.
A private car runs from the airport to near the site in one ride, with luggage staying on board. The official page does not say where cars may drop off or park, so tell us at booking and our team will confirm the arrangement.
Cost and group size
The site is at Lake Motosu, not Kawaguchiko town, so please ask us for a quote. For direction only: Haneda to Kawaguchiko starts from ¥55,000 (Alphard, reference price) and Narita to Kawaguchiko is ¥70,000 (Alphard, tax included). Cars are priced per vehicle, so five people in one Alphard works out to about ¥11,000 each on the Kawaguchiko route from Haneda (reference price). Route details: Haneda to Kawaguchiko and Narita to Kawaguchiko.
Once your flight and bloom dates are set, put the group size, luggage count and whether you want to enter the same day on the booking page, and our team will confirm each point.
