Narita to Ueno is as little as 41 minutes on the Skyliner, priced per person. When a private car wins: groups, luggage, late arrivals or Haneda flights.
Getting from Narita to Ueno, the obvious comparison is Keisei's Skyliner, which runs straight from the airport to Keisei-Ueno in as little as 41 minutes. For one or two people travelling light, it is a great option. But the Skyliner and a private car solve different problems, and which one wins depends on your trip.
When the Skyliner makes sense
- One or two people with light luggage. It is priced per person, so small parties pay less in total.
- Your hotel is close to Keisei-Ueno. The walk at the end is short.
- You land at Narita during the day. Trains are frequent and the last train is not a worry.
Narita to Ueno: when a private car comes out ahead
A bigger group. The Skyliner charges everyone a fare; a car is one price for the vehicle. From Narita to anywhere in Tokyo, an Alphard is ¥22,000 and a Hiace ¥27,000 (per vehicle, tax included). Four people in an Alphard pay about ¥5,500 each; eight in a Hiace about ¥3,375 each. The bigger the group, the wider the gap.
Your hotel is not next to Keisei-Ueno. Keisei-Ueno and JR Ueno are separate stations. Ueno's hotels are spread east of JR Ueno and towards Okachimachi, Inaricho and Iriya, and walking there from Keisei-Ueno with suitcases can take longer than the drive. A car takes you to the door.
Lots of luggage or small children. Leaving the station still means stairs and road crossings, and every extra suitcase makes that harder.
A late arrival. If a delay makes you miss the last train, you need another way in. Our cars run 24 hours, with a ¥4,000 surcharge between 22:00 and 06:00; check Keisei's site for the last Skyliner. For other late-night options, see arriving late at Haneda or Narita.
You are flying into Haneda. The Skyliner only serves Narita. From Haneda you would change trains, while a car goes direct: Alphard ¥15,000 to anywhere in Tokyo, about 30–45 minutes depending on traffic.
Drop-off in Ueno
The streets around Ueno Park and Ameyoko are narrow and crowded, and some hotel entrances are down side streets. Give the hotel's Japanese name and address when booking, and our team will confirm the drop-off point with the driver. Staying in Yanaka, Nezu or Nippori? FAQ

- The Skyliner is priced per person; our cars are priced per vehicle. The bigger the group, the less each person pays — for example, four people in an Alphard from Narita to Ueno pay about ¥5,500 each. Check Keisei's official site for current Skyliner fares and compare.
- Is there a Skyliner from Haneda to Ueno?
- No. The Skyliner only runs between Narita Airport, Nippori and Keisei-Ueno. From Haneda you would change trains, while a private car goes direct in about 30–45 minutes, depending on traffic.
