Chubu Airport to Ise is about two hours by car. How to visit Geku then Naiku on arrival day, where your luggage goes, and traffic on peak days. Quote on request.
Ise Jingu is centred on two shrines, Naiku (Kotaijingu) and Geku (Toyo'uke-daijingu), which stand some distance apart. The official access page is clear about the order: "Please visit Geku at first, and then visit Naiku." So for the trip from Chubu Airport to Ise, the real planning question is two visits, one move in between, and where your luggage goes.
Chubu Airport to Ise: arrival-day order
The drive from Chubu Airport to Ise usually takes around two hours depending on traffic. Following the official order, the day looks like this:
- Airport → Geku: visit Geku first.
- Geku → Naiku: stay in the same car. If you are on public transport, the Geku–Naiku loop bus connects the two (listed as Routes 51 and 55 on the official access page).
- Naiku → hotel: continue to your accommodation in Ise, Toba or Shima.
Both shrines involve walking along long approach paths, which is no place for suitcases. With a private car, your luggage stays in the vehicle and you visit unburdened. If you need the car to wait at each shrine, tell us your expected time at each when booking; our team will confirm where it can stop and wait. See adding a stop to an airport transfer.
If you land in the afternoon, consider checking in first and visiting early the next morning. The shrines open early, with closing times that vary by month; check the official site.
Traffic on peak days
Traffic into Ise builds noticeably over New Year (hatsumode) and long weekends. The official access page links to Central Nippon Expressway and a local traffic site, Rakuraku Ise Moude, so check conditions before you set off. On those days, allow extra driving time and keep the post-visit plan loose.
Group size and vehicle
Pricing is per vehicle: the Alphard seats 7 and the Hiace seats 10. For a family visit with older relatives, moving between shrines in one car saves a lot of walking (see airport transfers for multigenerational families). Ise is not on our public price list, so please contact our team for a quote; all quotes are confirmed by our team.
If you would rather spend the first night in Nagoya, see Chubu Airport to Nagoya and set off the next day; all Chubu routes are on the Chubu Airport routes page. Once your plan is set, go to the booking page with your flight and expected time at each shrine.
