Japan Pre-Wedding Photoshoot Transport: Car & Day Charter

· Updated

Planning transport for a Japan pre-wedding photoshoot: fitting gown boxes and gear, a day charter for shoot day, pre-dawn starts, and location rules to check.

Transport for a Japan pre-wedding photoshoot starts with one fact: it looks like a trip for two, but it travels like a small crew: a photographer, a make-up artist, gown boxes, suit bags, a make-up case and camera gear. From the airport to the last frame, the question at every step is how all of that moves with you.

Count the boxes before choosing the car

A photo crew's luggage usually fills the car before the seats do. Count every piece:

  • gown boxes or garment bags for the dresses
  • suit bags, shoe boxes, headpiece cases
  • the make-up case
  • camera cases, tripods, light stands and reflectors

A couple plus photographer and make-up artist is four people. The Alphard seats 7 with room for 6 pieces; if the boxes and gear come to more than six, choose the Hiace (10 seats, 9 pieces). An itemised list in your booking gets the vehicle settled in one go, where "lots of luggage" does not.

On arrival day, Haneda to anywhere in Tokyo is ¥15,000 by Alphard or ¥17,000 by Hiace, per car, tax included, the same across Tokyo. From Narita, see Narita to Tokyo.

Pre-wedding shoot day transport: one car, boxes stay on board

A shoot day usually covers two or three locations, and every move means carrying the gown boxes and gear again. With a day charter, the whole crew and every box stay in one car, and you only take out what each location needs. Our Japan day charter booking guide covers what to decide first.

A Tokyo day charter covers 10 hours, starting and ending in Tokyo: ¥45,000 by Alphard or ¥50,000 by Hiace, with ¥3,000 for each extra 30 minutes and tolls and parking included. For a second day of lake and mountain backdrops in Hakone, a Hakone day charter by Alphard is ¥60,000.

Sunrise shots mean leaving before first light, and earlier still in summer. Transfers between 22:00 and 06:00 carry a ¥4,000 surcharge. If the charter needs to start early, put the start time in your booking and our team will confirm the arrangements.

Send us the photographer's running order and the time planned at each location; it is the best way to judge whether 10 hours is enough. See sample Tokyo day charter itineraries for how the hours split, and if the honeymoon follows, airport transfers for couples and honeymooners.

Check the location rules first

Many gardens, shrines and public spaces in Japan have their own photography rules, and not all of them allow wedding shoots. Shinjuku Gyoen's official rules, for example, state that:

  • paying a professional photographer to take personal commemorative photos is not permitted;
  • tripods, reflectors and other professional equipment are banned at busy times; in 2026 that means 19 March to 26 April (the whole garden) and 1 to 15 November (the Japanese Traditional Garden).

See Shinjuku Gyoen's photography rules. Rules differ from place to place, so ask your photographer to confirm each location with the venue. The car's job is to get you to the places where you can shoot.

Count the boxes, check the locations, and on shoot day you only need to think about the camera. Send your arrival flight and shoot-day plan on the booking page, with a list of the gown boxes and gear.
