Airport Transfer Cost Per Person in Japan: 2 to 10 People

· Updated

Japan airport transfers are priced per vehicle, so cost per person depends on group size. Worked splits for Alphard and Hiace to Tokyo, Atami and Hakone, plus late-night rules.

When a group heads to Japan, the question about the airport run is always the same: "What is the airport transfer cost per person if we share a car?" The answer depends on two things: how many people, and how many bags. Sakura Travel prices airport transfers per vehicle, not per head, and there are two vehicles: the Alphard (7 seats, 6 bags) and the Hiace (10 seats, 9 bags). Here are worked examples at current rates, ready to paste into your group chat.

Airport transfer cost per person: Central Tokyo

One fare covers anywhere in Tokyo (per vehicle, tax included, one way). "Per person" is the full fare divided by headcount, as a rough guide.

Airport Vehicle and group Full fare Per person
Haneda Alphard, 2 people ¥15,000 about ¥7,500
Haneda Alphard, 4 people ¥15,000 about ¥3,750
Haneda Alphard, 6 people ¥15,000 about ¥2,500
Haneda Hiace, 8 people ¥17,000 about ¥2,125
Haneda Hiace, 10 people ¥17,000 about ¥1,700
Narita Alphard, 2 people ¥22,000 about ¥11,000
Narita Alphard, 4 people ¥22,000 about ¥5,500
Narita Alphard, 6 people ¥22,000 about ¥3,667
Narita Hiace, 8 people ¥27,000 about ¥3,375
Narita Hiace, 10 people ¥27,000 about ¥2,700

Tokyo Disney Resort is in Chiba Prefecture, so the Tokyo fare does not apply; please ask our team for a quote. See Haneda to Tokyo and Narita to Tokyo, or every airport in the Japan airport transfer price guide.

Stuck in between: seven people, or more bags than people

The usual problem is not headcount but luggage. An Alphard seats seven but takes only six bags, so seven people with a large suitcase each will not fit.

Switching to the Hiace is usually the easy answer, and the difference is small: from Haneda to Tokyo the Hiace costs ¥2,000 more than the Alphard, and from Narita ¥5,000 more — very little each across seven people. With a lot of luggage, you can also ask our team to compare one Hiace with two Alphards; two Alphards from Haneda come to ¥30,000 in total.

How your luggage actually fits is confirmed by our team. For seats and luggage side by side, see Alphard vs Hiace; for more than ten people in two vehicles, see airport transfers for groups of 11 to 20.

Longer trips: sharing makes a bigger difference

Route Vehicle and group Full fare Per person
Haneda to Atami Alphard, 6 people ¥50,000 about ¥8,333
Haneda to Atami Hiace, 9 people ¥55,000 about ¥6,111
Narita to Hakone Alphard, 6 people ¥70,000 about ¥11,667
Narita to Hakone Hiace, 9 people ¥80,000 about ¥8,889

By train, getting to an onsen ryokan usually means changing in Tokyo to the Shinkansen or a private railway — the hardest part for a group with suitcases. See Haneda to Atami and Narita to Hakone.

Late-night surcharge: once per vehicle

Trips between 22:00 and 06:00 carry a ¥4,000 surcharge, charged once per vehicle, not per person. Six people in an Alphard from Haneda to Tokyo late at night pay ¥19,000 in total — just divide by six. The bigger the group, the less the surcharge adds per head.

Two things to settle before you split the bill

  1. Children count as seats. Babies and children each take a seat. Child seats and booster seats are available; include the number and ages of the children when you book.
  2. One person books and pays. The headcount and luggage on the booking decide the vehicle; settle up within the group afterwards.

Count your people and your bags, then send your details on the booking page.

FAQ

What is the airport transfer cost per person in Japan?
Transfers are priced per vehicle, so divide the full fare by your headcount. For example, an Alphard from Haneda to anywhere in Tokyo is ¥15,000 (per vehicle, tax included), about ¥3,750 each for four people.
We are 7 people. Alphard or Hiace?
An Alphard seats 7 but takes only 6 bags; if all seven of you have a large suitcase, choose the Hiace (10 seats, 9 bags). From Haneda to Tokyo the difference is ¥2,000, which is little once split seven ways.
Is the late-night surcharge per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle, once. Trips between 22:00 and 06:00 carry a ¥4,000 surcharge; add it to the fare and divide by your headcount.
Do children count as seats?
Yes. Babies and children each take a seat. Child seats and booster seats are available — include the number and ages of the children when you book.
