Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea: which suits kids, couples and two-day trips, plus how to plan arrival and departure days around your flights.
Tokyo Disney Resort has two separate parks: Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. For a first visit with time for only one, Disneyland or DisneySea is less about which is "better" and more about who you travel with and what you want to see.
Travelling with kids or grandparents: Disneyland
Tokyo Disneyland follows the classic route of fairy tales and cartoon characters: Mickey, the princesses and the Cinderella Castle. Young children understand it at a glance, and it is the easier first Disney day for families. For lands, attractions and height restrictions, see the official Disneyland page.
If you have a toddler, plan the arrival-day ride as well. Tell us when booking that you need a child seat; we can provide one. See our guide to airport transfers with a baby or toddler.
Adults and couples: DisneySea
DisneySea exists only in Japan. It is themed around harbours, the sea and exploration, with realistic settings and dining and evening views that suit adults. Fantasy Springs, opened on 6 June 2024, is the park's eighth themed port, with areas from Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan and an on-site hotel (opening coverage by Blooloop; current details on the official DisneySea page). If that area is why you are going, choose DisneySea.
Two days: one park a day, no park on arrival day
The smoothest plan is one park per day rather than hopping the same day. Ticket types, park-hopping rules and which attractions need advance booking change from year to year, so check the official ticket page before buying. We list no amounts here.
What travellers tend to overlook is the flight:
- Do not plan park time on arrival day. After a long flight and immigration you reach the hotel in the evening; a rested next morning lasts longer.
- Leave on an afternoon or evening flight. You can enjoy a half day, then collect luggage from the hotel.
- Do not carry luggage in. Souvenirs usually make the return trip heavier than the arrival.
Maihama is not "Tokyo city"
Disney is in Urayasu, Chiba, so the Tokyo flat rate does not apply. Drive time depends on traffic: roughly 30–45 minutes from Haneda and 50–70 from Narita, with holidays and closing-time crowds slower. For airport-to-hotel options and the train comparison, see Narita and Haneda to Tokyo Disney; for catching a flight on the way out, see Disney to the airport.
If the second half of your trip is in central Tokyo, where to stay in Tokyo may help.
Decide on the park, then book the car
Once you know which park and which two days, submit arrival and departure transfers on the booking page. All quotes are confirmed by our team.
FAQ
- Should a first-timer pick Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea?
- Pick Tokyo Disneyland if you travel with young children and want classic fairy tales and cartoon characters. Pick Tokyo DisneySea if it is mostly adults or a couple and you prefer realistic harbour and adventure settings. With two days, do both.
- What is Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea?
- Fantasy Springs is the newest themed port at DisneySea, opened on 6 June 2024, with areas based on Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan. If it is your main reason to visit, choose DisneySea, not Disneyland.
- How should I plan two days at Tokyo Disney Resort?
- One park per day rather than hopping on the same day. Do not plan park time on your arrival day. On departure day, if your flight is in the afternoon or evening, enjoy a half day, then collect luggage from the hotel. Check the official site for ticket types and park-hopping rules.
- How do I get from the airport to a hotel near Disney?
- Tokyo Disney Resort is in Urayasu, Chiba, not inside Tokyo. From Haneda or Narita you can book a private car to the hotel door. Give the hotel name and address when booking and our team will confirm the arrangement.
